BOTANICAL
WATERCOLOURS
WITH ALFIE GATT*
Discover the beauty of nature through watercolour.
This session brings a practical exploration of watercolour painting, focused on the botanical world, blending technique, creativity and mindful observation. You will learn how to handle watercolour materials and master techniques suited to painting plants and flowers, while also learning to see natural forms with fresh eyes and translate that vision into expressive artworks.
WHAT WE’LL COVER*
-
Develop a solid understanding of watercolor techniques such as colour mixing, layering, and brush control, applied to the textures and forms found in leaves, petals and stems.
-
Gain confidence in using your tools to render botanical detail, from delicate petal edges to the structure of foliage.
-
Learn how to observe plants and flowers with greater sensitivity, noticing shapes, light and subtle colour shifts that bring botanical paintings to life.
-
Experiment with composition and style as you build your own artistic voice within the botanical genre, from loose and expressive studies to more detailed renderings.
Whether you are completely new to watercolor or looking to deepen your existing practice, this course provides a welcoming space to play, explore, and grow - with a particular focus on plants, flowers and the natural world. By the end, you'll leave with a collection of your own botanical works, a set of refined techniques, and a renewed sense of joy and connection to your creativity.

Colours: Whether in pans or tubes, the choice is yours. Pans might be more convenient for portability as they come in a pocket box. Check out the links below for a few recommendations:
CWC SKT Pocket Box (our recommendation)
Cotman Watercolour Set 10x5ml
Student WatercolourBrush: Consider this brush pack for your painting needs. The brushes must be specific for watercolours: CWC Short Handle Brush
Paper: Ensure that the paper is suitable for watercolours. 100% cotton is expensive. I recommend something similar to the link below. They are 25% cotton, so the quality is good enough, but it does not break the bank.
Spiral 25% cotton, Jumbo 25% cotton, Pad 25% cotton
MEET ALFIE
Alfie Gatt has been teaching watercolour evening classes for three years, and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of his creative journey. What he love most about teaching is the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life, to hear their stories, understand their motivations, and watch them grow in confidence as they explore the medium. Each class brings a new energy and sense of discovery, both for his students and for himself.
Alfie is a firm believer that creativity flourishes in a relaxed and encouraging environment, where everyone feels free to experiment and express themselves. Guiding others to find their own rhythm, voice, and joy in painting is something that deeply inspires him.
