ETERNAL INK

A Reflection on Death and Mortality with Palliative Care Nurse Educator,
Kurt Cassar.
18th June, 5pm CET. Online.

THE WORKSHOP

Join us for a creative and introspective workshop where you’ll explore themes of death and mortality through tattoo design. Reflect on your personal relationship with these topics, share your thoughts with others, and engage in meaningful conversation. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to express your emotions visually while connecting with a community through shared experiences.

The Details:

Eternal Ink is a guided creative workshop that invites participants to reflect on the themes of death, loss, and mortality through the intimate and expressive medium of tattoo design. In this session, you’ll explore personal reflections on end-of-life experiences and transform those thoughts into symbolic artwork.

The goal is not only to create, but to connect; with yourself and with others, through open, thoughtful exploration of a subject often left unspoken.

  • We’ll begin with a gentle introduction to the workshop’s theme and format, setting a respectful and supportive tone for shared vulnerability and creative exploration.

  • Participants will be guided through a series of reflective prompts to explore their personal perspectives on death and mortality. Using these reflections, you’ll design a symbolic tattoo — no drawing skills required, just honesty and intention.

  • Your designs will be uploaded to a shared online Padlet platform, creating a communal digital flash sheet. This space allows everyone to view, appreciate, and comment on each other’s expressions.

  • We’ll gather for a facilitated conversation, where you’re invited (but not required) to share the story behind your tattoo, listen to others, and reflect on the diversity of meaning we bring to this universal experience.

  • We’ll conclude with closing thoughts and share access to the archived Padlet so you can revisit and reflect on the collection of designs created during the session.

Meet Kurt Cassar

Kurt Cassar is a Maltese palliative care nurse educator with a passion for life’s finer details and deeper questions. With over seven years of clinical experience in Malta and four years teaching in Estonia, he’s now pursuing a PhD at the University of Amsterdam, researching how everyday life shapes relationships in palliative care. Based again in Malta, Kurt teaches remotely, focusing on culture, language, and the ordinary moments that influence care. Outside work, he writes poetry, cooks with loved ones, and tends to a home filled with plants and two opinionated cats.
