From Generative To Interactive Art
with Jacob Saliba
The Workshop
This short course offers an accessible yet inspiring introduction to TouchDesigner, one of the leading tools for real-time digital art, interactive installations, and generative visuals. Ideal for beginners and creatives from any background, the programme focuses on practical experimentation and a clear understanding of how data can drive visual experiences.
The Details
Session 1: Explore the world of interactive art
You will learn the core logic of TouchDesigner, discover its operator families, and understand how real-time rendering pipelines function. Through hands-on exercises, you will experiment with different inputs such as audio or movement and build a simple interactive visual system that reacts to external stimuli.
By the end of the session, you will have a solid grasp of how data can be used creatively to shape responsive digital artworks.
Session 2: Foundations of generative design
The session introduces procedural techniques including noise, feedback, and instancing, guiding you to creating complex motion systems or abstract patterns. Real examples of generative art will help illustrate how simple rules can produce endlessly evolving visuals. The workshop concludes by combining interactivity with generative structures, enabling each participant to craft a dynamic digital piece that reacts, transforms, and comes alive.
By the end of the two weeks, you will feel confident building interactive and generative artworks, equipped with the core skills needed to continue exploring TouchDesigner on your own.
What you’ll need:
Laptop with latest Touchdesigner installed (Ableton is a plus)
Date:
12th June & 19th June at 6pm
2 sessions of 2 hours
Location: Insynk Collective, San Gwann, Malta.
