THE WORKSHOP
Three connected sessions on the technical skills, the mindset and everything else you need to get started on DJing. You'll learn the basics of tempo and beat matching, and
how to prepare your own music sets to DJ with.
This workshop is intended for beginners, and no previous DJing experience is necessary.
THE DETAILS*
The workshop sessions are split between demonstration and hands-on practice. Scythe will demo on the decks to show what's actually happening in a transition, then you'll rotate through the equipment, working step by step through mixing two tracks together. The session closes with a short back to back between everyone in the room, where each participant transitions from the last track into the next.
Participants will also learn how to operate DJ decks and mixers.

Week 1: Get a full rekordbox overview, learn how to prepare your tracks, and cover the basics of signal flow. You'll also get a light introduction to tempo and key, the core musical concepts behind every mix. By the end of the session, you'll blend your first two tracks together
Week 2: Focus on beatmatching, EQ control, and looping, and bring them together into clean transitions. You'll also touch on energy management and other techniques as they come up, without going into full detail
Week 3: Put it into practice in your first back-to-back (B2B) session, combining the technique and listening skills from weeks 1 and 2

This workshop is for complete beginners. No previous DJing experience is necessary, and you don't need to own any equipment beforehand.

Meet Scythe
Scythe is the stage name of Luke Camilleri, a Malta-based DJ and producer working across hard techno and trance. He started DJing at 17, and has spent the years since building sets that blend the two genres into driving, euphoric mixes. He's played Glitch Festival, one of Malta's largest electronic music events, and O.S.M.W.S.T.A. nights at The Playground in Valletta.
A powerhouse within the Maltese underground, Scythe operates purely on instinct, blurring the rigid boundaries between Trance and Techno. Refusing strict definitions, his output is dictated by the mood of the floor, resulting in sets that are as fluid as they are intense.
This raw, “feeling-first” philosophy has earned him a massive amount of support from industry titans such as KI/KI, SPFDJ, Anetha, Somewhen, and HorsegiirL. With multiple releases on labels such as SESH, Parallel, and Grosso, and playing at legendary venues such as Aeden and Arzenal, Scythe brings a distinct and authentic energy to his home turf.

The Workshop
Session One: The Basis

This course is for aspiring DJs starting from scratch. It's built to work with a home setup, whether that's a DJ controller, CDJs, or software only. No previous DJing experience or equipment is required going in.
