Film Processing At Home

€40.00

Discover the art and science of black and white reversal film processing in this hands-on online workshop using common household items.

What We’ll Cover

History & Theory: Learn the history and theory behind the reversal process as we compare both historic and contemporary industrial processes, before exploring alternative ecological solutions to creating diapositives.

Ingredients & Equipment: We will examine several peracetic bleach recipes, explore the pros and cons of each, and outline conclusions for a viable method using minimal ingredients and equipment. We will also briefly touch on ecological developers and fixers.

Hands-on Practice: Watch and follow along at home as we mix a peracetic bleach from household ingredients, and witness the process in real-time as we observe the chemical reaction on the celluloid film.

Tips & Techniques: The workshop will conclude with a group discussion, offering space to share thoughts and ideas on sustainable film practices, ask questions, and discuss tips, techniques, and troubleshooting.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of the workshop, you will understand the science behind the black and white reversal process, have the knowledge to mix your own developers, peracetic bleach, and fixers from household ingredients, and execute the process to create your own diapositives.

You will need hydrogen peroxide and citric acid/distilled vinegar to work alongside your tutor during the workshop.

Dates:
26th February 2026 at 6pm CET. Online.

MEET WILL DE RITTER

Will De Ritter is a London-based analogue filmmaker. He works with celluloid film and photochemicals to produce films which tread a fine line between experimental and genre movies. He is interested in working with obsolete photographic technology to produce effects which are digitally unachievable, and developing sustainable solutions to photographic practices.

Recently Will has been collaborating with Barking Community Cinema to establish a community darkroom, providing a space and platform for local residents to experiment with analogue film production and research.

He is excited to share experimental techniques with likeminded creatives to build a network of virtual lab partners for dialoguing, sharing techniques, and troubleshooting.
