Performance Making Workshop - with Ira Melkonyan

The Workshop

This 3-hour Saturday workshop invites artists, performers, and curious humans to explore new approaches to performance-making through the lens of art, ecology, and contemporary philosophy.

Rooted in Ira’s ongoing artistic research on non-human performativity, the workshop considers gravity, weather, sunlight, rain, seawater, and coastal flora and fauna as co-creators and performers. Together, participants will reflect on ideas of flow and porosity as starting points for creative practice.

The Details

Through a series of sensory and practical exercises, participants will explore methods for activating perception and translating experience into performative material.

By the end of the session, everyone will develop and share short performative fragments with the group.

This workshop forms part of Ira’s sabbatical for artistic research, Ta’ Ġewwa: Contemplations on Belonging, supported by Arts Council Malta.

Participants will:

  • explore the concept of more-than-human performativity

  • experiment with different ways of generating performative material

  • develop short performance fragments through guided exercises

  • share and reflect on their work in a collective setting

23rd May 2026, In Person.
Bored Peach Club, Xaghra, Gozo.
Time: 10AM to 1PM
