Photowalk: Hamrun and Xaghra with Maltadoors

from €25.00

More than a workshop, these photowalks are a collective community experience. With minimal guidance, other than a clear trajectory (and a few fun and enthusiastic tips), this is an opportunity to 'slow travel' and perhaps play local tourist. Bring along any piece of equipment that can take a photo - even a phone will be enough.

Our busy, bustling lives often don't offer us the chance to stop and notice all those delicious details, those textures, that shaft of light enhancing architectural elements or even venture into that unexplored alley.

Through this shared experience, we shall attempt to alter our selective sight so that we can begin to notice, and look beyond what we would normally see. There's no need for any professional equipment - any 'tool' of choice will do - even a phone or a disposable camera.

By the end of these photowalks, you’ll learn how to slow down and notice the smaller, seemingly more insignificant details. The photo walks are accompanied with tips on how to focus on certain elements, what to look for, and how to use light to your advantage. You will also learn how to 'perform' and engage within a collective.

The Details:
SESSION ONE: 24 January 2026, 3pm - 5pm
SESSION TWO: 25 January 2026, 10am - 12pm

THE LOCATIONS

The Location: Ħamrun

Ħamrun is one of Malta’s most lived-in towns: central, always in motion, and stitched into the island’s daily rhythm. A diorama of people passing through on errands, meeting for a coffee, or turning down a side street where the noise softens into ordinary life. There’s a wonderfully unpolished charm to Ħamrun. It isn’t trying to be a postcard; it’s more real than that, with balconies and facades catching the sun, corner groceries, barbers, parish notices, and the gentle chaos of a place that belongs to its residents. You’ll feel the mixture of old and new everywhere: traditional streetscapes alongside the quick pulse of modern Malta.

The Location: Xaghra

Xaghra is a quiet town in Gozo with deep roots and an invite to slow down, breathe out, and explore. Apart from its world-famous heritage sites, it also boasts a more muted allure with its washed limestone facades, hidden alleyways, and the local folk that are the intrinsic heart of the land. Stitched between rolling green fields and the stunning blue sea, it’s a place to take in some of the island’s most loved spots and come away calm and inspired.
